  • Need to ensure that Outpatient Clinics were effectively used and theatres fully utilised to minimise disruption to patient care pathways / experiences
  • Need to ensure accurate and consistent performance management information

PROJECT ACTIVITIES

  • Formed joint working groups involving consultant and nursing staff and coached in ‘Lean’ systems and techniques
  • Developed real-time performance management systems to identify areas of delay that impacted directly on patient length of stay
  • Coaching of consultant led, multi-skilled action teams to develop solutions and implement improvements
  • Development of a clinic utilisation tool and re-setting on the clinic booking procedures with medical management and consultants

PROJECT RESULTS

  • Extensive buy-in to Lean principle and practices amongst clinical, nursing and administrative staff
  • Significant reduction in patient length of stay
  • Re-allocation of workloads resulting in re-distribution of staffing resources OF 20%
